Kilam Media Inc. is a woman-led media production company with a thoughtful approach to storytelling. We support projects no matter what stage of development. From producing diverse content for film, tv and web, to live stream production to developing campaigns, we collaboratively plan, execute and deliver quality.

  • Kilam Media Inc. is a media production company with headquarters in Ottawa, Canada and offices in Los Angeles, California. Founded in 2013 by artist, filmmaker, entrepreneur and immigrant settler, Mailyne K. Briggs, Kilam Media was formerly known as Dream Love Grow, a passion project to help underrepresented communities facing barriers.

Over the last decade, Mailyne K. Briggs has donated services, funds and energy through Kilam Media, and continues to serve the community, co-founding non-profits like Film Girlz Brunch, In Our Tongues and A.R.T. In Action.

Since incorporating in 2023, Kilam Media Inc. focuses on uplifting underrepresented industry members while being champions of decolonizing media as mindful, diverse storytellers.

  • Our mission is to develop and create media and entertainment with a thoughtful approach guided by intersectional, collaborative and non-extractive storytelling that inspires positive impact.

  • To be agents of change, authentic storytellers and champions of diversity, working in the media industry in an ethical, accessible, socially just and environmentally-conscious way.

  • Inclusivity and Respect:

    • Treat clients, staff, volunteers, partners, mentors, and mentees with dignity, irrespective of race, gender, religion, sexual orientation, culture, disabilities, or limitations.

    • Hold zero tolerance for violence, hate, discrimination, or racism from staff, community partners or stakeholders.

    • Commit to ongoing training in accessibility, anti-oppression, anti-racism, and trauma-informed practices.

    Honesty and Transparency:

    • Emphasize clear communication for effective collaboration.

    • Value and uphold accountability when we make mistakes.

    Balance & Mental Health:

    • Prioritize self-care and family well-being for better relations.

    • Reject hustle culture, stepping away from “urgency” and prioritize mental health.

    • Set clear boundaries as a key to success.

    Open-Minded Collaboration:

    • Embrace diverse perspectives and ideas for collaborative storytelling.

    • Value and incorporate input from others who’s stories we may be helping to shape.

  • 1) Share opportunities, when possible, with primarily women-of-colour, Indigenous community members, immigrant newcomers and LGBTQ2S+ folks living with a range of abilities.

    2) Prioritize the hiring, commissioning and mentoring of members in these communities.

    3) Ensure digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We completed AODA training, received a verified Certificate for Web Accessibility training and regularly attend workshops through Accessibility Canada.

We are continually improving the user experience for everyone, and applying the relevant accessibility standards based off of WCAG 2.1.

  • We strive to be a zero waste business based on the Zero Waste Declaration.

In 2022, we signed the Creative Industries Pact for Sustainable Action.

    HOW?

After our Founder, Mailyne decided to live a zero waste life in 2015, we set an intention to try to be as waste free as possible by sending invoices, contracts and files online. As digital media and content creators, we understand our carbon footprint still exists (server farms) and pledge to:

    • Contribute to social and community development and donate annually to environmental organizations such as Water First.

    • Develop and encourage partnerships that enable knowledge-sharing on sustainable best practices.

    • Prioritize the consumption of low-carbon foods.

    • Prioritize the use of sustainable, low-carbon materials.

    • Advocate for incentives and policy for sustainability.

We've already been part of the zero waste community since 2015, and have been part of the action to eliminate single-use disposable plastics in Ottawa. We look forward to continuing our commitment within our personal and professional lives.

Stories driven by purpose.

We’re excited to be working on a slate of shows, documentaries and films that we feel align with our mission and vision.
